The health and wellbeing of people living in the West is just as important as anywhere else in the State, but the West has been neglected for far too long. We should always be able to access GP and hospital treatment whenever we need it, and the community services that help keep us fit and healthy throughout our lives must also be fully supported.
Our priorities for the West:
- Have a standard of care which means that no-one should ever have to drive past a public hospital to access the same care at another hospital.
- Increase inpatient beds at Werribee and Sunshine.
- Increase Headspace services in the western suburbs.
- Provide public psychiatric care at Werribee Hospital.
- Increase local Virtual Emergency Departments.
- Require hospitals to provide monthly publicly accessible waiting times for appointments and common procedures/operations.
- Fund private hospitals to operate on public patients who have waited more than twice the recommended time.
