Footscray is exceptionally well connected by public transport. Footscray railway station is a major hub on the Werribee, Williamstown and Altona loop lines, offering frequent services to the CBD in under 15 minutes. Multiple bus routes serve surrounding streets. The proximity to the CBD means public transport dependency is high and the services must match that need.
Crime & Community Safety
According to Crime Statistics Agency Victoria data, Footscray experiences above-average crime rates compared to Greater Melbourne, driven primarily by property crime (theft and burglary/break and enter). In 2024, over 1,500 theft incidents and 406 burglary cases were recorded, alongside 355 assault-related offences. Residents and community organisations consistently identify safety around Footscray station and the Nicholson Street Mall as a top priority.
