Werribee
Werribee is the historic heartland of Melbourne’s western suburbs – a town with deep agricultural, industrial and community roots that has transformed into a significant urban centre over the past three decades. The Werribee electoral district covers Werribee, extending to include Hoppers Crossing, Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes, and parts of Werribee South. It is a district where older Werribee residents exist alongside newer communities built on recently released land – two very different lived experiences that both deserve genuine attention.
The district has a strong working-class character and a proud sense of local identity. Werribee is home to significant cultural communities including Italian, Croatian, and Vietnamese families who established roots here generations ago, alongside newer Indian, Filipino, and Pacific Islander arrivals. The Wyndham City Council area – one of the fastest growing in Australia – is anchored to this district.

Public Transport
Werribee station is the terminus of the Werribee line, connecting to Flinders Street Station in approximately 45–50 minutes at peak times. Hoppers Crossing station also serves the line. Bus services exist throughout the district but frequency is low outside peak hours. Wyndham Vale has limited public transport access. Car ownership and use are virtually universal, and freeway access to the CBD via the Princes Freeway and Western Ring Road is the dominant commuting route.
Crime & Community Safety
Werribee records crime rates broadly in line with or slightly above the Melbourne average, with property crime (theft, burglary, and vehicle theft) being the most commonly reported categories. Antisocial behaviour concerns have been raised in parts of Hoppers Crossing and Werribee town centre, particularly around late-night venues. Family violence rates across the Wyndham LGA have been a focus of significant community concern and sustained advocacy.
