The Labor Government is spending $900,000 a year to pay a Queensland public servants to fly back and forth to Victoria to oversee the construction of the Suburban Rail Loop, in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs.
At the same time, the Government says it doesn’t have enough money to fund the desperately-needed Metro 2 rail upgrade in the Western suburbs.
“This just shows where the government’s priorities are,” West Party founder, Paul Hopper, said.
“The State Government continues to take the West for granted, which is why we have missed out for decades on basic services like a proper rail system. This must change – we need to stop voting for Labor, and start voting for someone who will deliver for the West.”
“That’s the reason the West Party has been created. We exist to give the West a better choice and better outcomes,” Paul said.
It was reported in the Age newspaper recently that Suburban Rail Loop Chief Executive Frankie Carroll is being paid almost a million dollars a year, despite still living in Queensland and flying back and forth to oversee the controversial project in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs.
“The Government can find millions for public servant wages, but they don’t want to spend a cent out West. It’s wrong and it must change,” Paul said.
